In just under a month, Tidal Brewing Co. and Roots Creative Co. will partner to host their inaugural live art event, Art & Ales, on Saturday, Nov. 8 from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Tidal Brewing Co.

This immersive live art experience will celebrate creativity and community, all while raising money for the Hernando County Fine Arts Council.

The free event invites guests to watch five talented local artists go head-to-head in a six-hour live painting challenge, each creating a one-of-a-kind piece inspired by a selected Tidal Brewing beer.

Spectators can see the full creative process in real time from first sketch to final brushstroke and play a role in choosing one of the winners. The competition includes a $500 Grand Prize (Judge’s Pick) and a $250 People’s Choice Award, which will be decided by attendees.

“This event brings together everything we love about Hernando County, creativity, community, and collaboration,” said Allisa Babor, founder of Roots Creative Co., who partnered with Tidal Brewing owner Maxine Peitzman to organize the event. “It’s an opportunity to celebrate local talent in a fun, interactive way that also supports the arts in our county.”

The five featured artists represent a diverse mix of styles, mediums, and influences. Competing in the live challenge are Giuseppe Solito (@lordmcpepper), Alyona Berry (@cosmicberry), James Oleson (@olesonart), Nancy Barry (@artbynancybarry), and Johan Casadiego (@johans_artwork). Each artist will interpret Tidal beer through their own creative lens, offering the audience a chance to watch five distinct artistic processes unfold simultaneously.

For many attendees, the event offers a rare opportunity to watch artists at work. This opportunity is an experience that blends the thrill of live competition with the intimacy of studio creation.

“We wanted to design something that feels alive where you can actually see creativity happening in real time,” Babor said. “Art shouldn’t always be something you just look at on a wall; it should be something you experience.”

Beyond the excitement of the live painting challenge, Art & Ales is designed as a full sensory experience. Guests can enjoy specialty beer, custom merchandise, interactive art activities, and food from a local food truck.

VIP guests will receive a curated beer flight, limited-edition merchandise, and other exclusive perks. Each VIP ticket purchase, available for $40 at www.tidalbrewingfl.com/store/arts-and-ales-vip, directly supports local arts programming through the Hernando County Fine Arts Council.

“This is a free event, open to everyone,” Babor said. “But those who purchase VIP tickets are not only getting a unique experience, they’re also helping fund arts advocacy and education right here in Hernando County.”

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Hernando County Fine Arts Council, a local nonprofit dedicated to making the arts accessible to all residents through advocacy, education, and community programming.

Founded to “encourage, promote, and support all the creative arts in Hernando County,” the Council plays a key role in connecting local artists with opportunities and helping creative initiatives thrive. Events like Art & Ales directly support their mission by raising both funds and awareness for the arts.

“Through advocacy, education, and community-driven programming, the Hernando County Fine Arts Council works to make the arts accessible to all,” said Babor. “They’ve been instrumental in growing our local arts scene, and we’re thrilled to support their work.”

Art & Ales is a true community collaboration, along with the support of several local sponsors: Carter Foreman, PLLC, Hairstylist Cassandra Rober, Hippie Haven Collective, and La Boutique of Spring Hill.

Carter Foreman, PLLC, a family-owned law firm based in Hernando County, serves as the event’s co-presenting sponsor. Their motivation for joining the effort was rooted in community pride. “We love Tidal and that they are involved in the community. We also enjoy going to Art in the Park and supporting local events and businesses. We are a small family-owned business ourselves, and we love to see the community thrive. It’s just something small that we can do to give back and support where we live and the people who support us.”

Babor said that kind of local partnership is exactly what makes Art & Ales special. “This event wouldn’t be possible without our sponsors and community partners,” she said. “It’s amazing to see how many small businesses step up to support something creative. That’s what makes Hernando unique, people show up for each other.”

Sponsorships for Art & Ales start at $100 for businesses or individuals interested in contributing. Details and contact information are available at www.rootscreativeco.com/art-ales or by emailing allisa@rootscreativeco.com.

There will also be multiple vendors at the event as well. Grandaddy Records will be spinning records and selling their merch and vinyl's, Herbert Sherbert will have sherbet and ice cream with something special on the menu just for this event. Caricatures by Sam Contreras will be doing caricatures during the event, and Poke Em Food Truck will be serving up poke bowls and Asian street food.

While Art & Ales centers on live painting, Peitzman and Babor say the event is ultimately about bringing people together. Guests can expect interactive activities, local vendors, custom merchandise, and plenty of opportunities to engage with the artists and their creative process.

“The goal is to make art accessible, to break down barriers and make it something everyone can connect with,” Babor said. “And pairing that with great beer from a local brewery just makes the experience even better.”

As the first event of its kind in Hernando County, Art & Ales is already shaping up to be more than just another Saturday. It’s a celebration of local culture, creativity, and community and a reminder that supporting the arts can be as simple as showing up, having a drink, and watching inspiration take shape before your eyes.
